I do these recordings every now and then to keep a history of some of the techniques I'm trying out. Hard to remember all the little steps I took if I want to later recreate a technique from memory. I figured I'd share this one since it pushed me further than I typically go.
The page is from Grimm Fairy Tales #67. I don't know the penciller's name, but when I do I'll update this.
It took 2 hours and 45 minutes, but the video is sped up 5x, so it's not insanely long.
There is no audio because I'm a dork and forgot to turn off Pandora while it was recording, so YouTube kicked out the audio when it recognized it as copyrighted tunes.
One of these days I'm going to a Gnomon style video tutorial, but I don't feel I have enough good info to offer yet.
Anyway, check it out if you're interested. --> youtu.be/L8XnEDYsggs

Wizard World Portland - Jan 24-26
Well, I finally made it behind a table at a convention. I'm very happy to announce that I was invited to be a guest at this weekend's Wizard World Portland at the Oregon Convention Center. I'll be at table A57 so please stop by and say hi. I'm also doing a panel on coloring Sunday. Blurb is as follows:
11:30 – 12:15PM COLORISTS ON COLORING
With literally millions of colors in their digital palettes, comics colorists have a more challenging job than ever, with the responsibility of adding mood to the stories they work on, while keeping the narrative clear and compelling. Ace color artists Jeremy Colwell (Dark Horse Presents;
Looking to collab on prints
I've been told it's time I start having tables at shows and selling prints.
As I am mainly a colorist, I'm thinking it would be best to collaborate with a professional line artist, penciller, or penciller/inker team to come up with a few options or series. As I understand it, we would each have the ability to sell the prints at our respective tables and not have to split up based on total sales.
So, if you are interested, please drop me a line at jeremy@colwellillustration.com. I'm really only looking for pro-name work here, so if you're not being published, I'm sorry, but going to have to pass at this time as I'm probably not big enough t

This tutorial was really useful. When I looked at your layers, it looked like you had layer masks on each of the layers for the different articles of clothing. Is that why it looked like you didn't have to worry about coloring outside of the inked lines, or was something else I missed?
